Department of Remote Sensing Application in Forestry

1. Introduction

        Department of Remote Sensing Application in Forestry - DRAF was established in July 2014 with a young, enthusiastic and dynamic staffs contributing effectively to the implementation of programs, projects, scientific and technological subjects of the Institute. Particularly, the department is deeply involved in the activities of the National Forest Inventory and Inventory Project for the period 2013-2016 and contributes to the overall success of the project, giving prestige to the Institute. At present, there are 6 staffs, including 1 staff in the Russian Federation. Development orientation of the department is to research, apply GIS, remote sensing and information technology to propose solutions for sustainable development of the forestry sector in the context of climate change as well as actively participate in training, technology transfer related to professional fields. The staff members actively promote the solidarity to develop and determined to perform well-assigned tasks.

2. Functions and missions

- Functions:
        Advising the leaders to organize and implement the application of remote sensing technology and GIS in scientific research in forestry and investigation; inventory and assessment of changes in forest and forest land, water resources management, forest fire and other related activities in forestry.

- Missions:

  • Research on foundation and application of remote sensing in forest resource and forest land inventory and investigation.
  • Constructing the infrastructure of modern geographical information for management, monitoring of changes in forest resources and forest environmental monitoring, water resources management.
  • Research on development of technology for remote sensing application in early detection, forest fire prevention, and fighting;
    Participating in training, consultancy, appraisal, design, and implementation of projects and projects on the application of Remote Sensing in Agriculture and Forestry
  • Researching, implementing and transferring remote sensing technologies to agriculture and forestry activities;
