Consultation Conference on Drafting of Vietnam Coastal Forest Monitoring and Management Database

Coastal forests, especially mangroves, play a very important role in the protection and life of coastal people. This is considered the most vulnerable area to the impacts of nature and dense especially in the context of climate change. These forests provide a range of ecosystem services that help filter water, stabilize the coast, conserve biodiversity and play an important role in the tourism and entertainment industries ... However, this ecosystem is one of the most vulnerable ecosystems due to human impact and climate change.
On January 22, 2015, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 120 / QD-TTg approving the Scheme on "Protection and development of coastal forests to respond to climate change in the period 2015-2020". In Appendix I, Decision 120 / QD-TTg, assigning the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to implement the Project on assessment and monitoring of coastal forest changes with the main content of building digital maps and establishing databases on coastal forests. Sea on a national scale with objects: mangrove forests and forests on coastal areas and sand. Therefore, the project document "Improving the resilience of vulnerable coastal communities to climate change related impacts in Vietnam" is provided by the Green Climate Fund (GCF). Through UNDP in Vietnam, this content has been included in the project. The Institute of Forest Ecology and Environment is the consulting unit implementing Package No. 05 "Building a coastal forest database". In November 2018, the General Department of Forestry organized a workshop to report on the current status of coastal forest management database of Vietnam's coastal provinces/cities. At the workshop, participants basically agreed on the criteria for determining coastal forest area and input data to identify the annual coastal forest area as an updated map of forest changes from FORMIS. On that basis, in 2019, the consultant of the Institute of Forest Ecology and Environment - University of Forestry has: (1) Inherited the updated map of forest changes in the provinces until 31/12/2018 synchronized FORMIS system to build coastal forest database in 2018 according to agreed criteria; (2) Complete management and monitoring software for coastal forest Desktop version and Web version.
In order to synthesize the comments for the draft data set, the Project Management Board organized a Consultation Conference on the draft of Vietnam Coastal Forest Management and Monitoring Database on June 7 / 2019 at SEVEN SEA Hotel, 150, Vo Nguyen Giap Street, Phuoc My Ward, Son Tra District, Da Nang City.

The proposal to deploy more applications of smartphone device/tablet of the Institute of Forest Ecology and Environment for updating and monitoring coastal forest developments and receiving positive comments from participants.
