Consultation conference on the Draft of “Pilot project for indigenous species planting model to restore forests and combine with long-term economic tree planting in Nui Ong Nature Reserve

Consultation conference on the Draft of “Pilot project for indigenous species planting model to restore forests and combine with long-term economic tree planting in Nui Ong Nature Reserve” was held in Hall of Lac Tanh town People's Committee - Tanh Linh district on 15th January 2018.

Institute for Forest Ecology and Environment - IFEE was the consulting unit of “Pilot project for indigenous species planting model to restore forests and combine with long-term economic tree planting in Nui Ong Nature Reserve”. Up to now, the draft proposal has been completed. In order to complete the draft of this pilot project, Binh Thuan Department of Forest Protection coordinated with IFEE to organize a Conference on January 15, 2018 at the meeting hall of Lac Tanh Town People's Committee - Tanh Linh district. The conference took place with the participants as follows:

• Binh Thuan Department of Forest Protection
• Binh Thuan Forest Protection and Development Fund
• Tanh Linh District People's Committee leaders board
• Leaders and staffs of Nui Ong natural reserve
• Tanh Linh Forest Protection Department
• People committee of the communes: La Ngau, Duc Binh, Duc Thuan, Lac Tanh town, Gia Huynh, Suoi Kiet.
• Village leaders in the buffer zones of La Ngau, Duc Binh, Duc Thuan, Lac Tanh town, Gia Huynh, Suoi Kiet.
• Representatives of households having crops in the buffer zones of La Ngau, Duc Binh, Duc Thuan, Lac Tanh town, Gia Huynh, Suoi Kiet
• Consulting unit: Institute for Forest Ecology and Environment

During the working session, IFEEpresented brief drafts of the project. According to the draft report, 5 species were selected: Sterculia lychnophora, Bouea macrophylla, Amomum villosum, Polyscias fruticosa, Canarium album. IFEEalso designed the model of planting acacia species with economic trees.

At the end of the consultation conference, 5 species (Sterculia lychnophora, Bouea macrophylla, Amomum villosum, Polyscias fruticosa, Canarium album) were approved by the stakeholders. The conference finished at 12 o'clock at the same day.
