Sustainable forestry development is an important contribution to implement the resolution of Lam Dong province by increasing forest coverage in the province to 42% in 2020. This is also the task "Sustainable Forestry Development Program for the period of 2016-2020" according to the Prime Minister's Decision No. 886 / QD-TTg dated June 16th, 2017. Objectives of sustainable forest development: Improve productivity, quality and promote the value of each type of forest, increase the value of production forests on an area unit; contribute to responding the requirements of natural disaster mitigation, ecological environment protection, response to climate change and sea-level rise; creating jobs, increase income, contribute to hunger eradication and poverty alleviation, improve livelihoods for people working in forestry, associated with the process of new countryside development, ensuring national security, national defense and social safety. One of the main solutions for sustainable forestry development is agroforestry and scattered plantation.
In order to accomplish this task, the Forest Protection and Development Fund of Dak Nong province has developed and designed the task "Establishing a sustainable forest development proposal by agroforestry method and scattered plantation in the period of 2019-2025". The Institute of Forest Ecology and Environment under Viet Nam National University of Forestry is an organization that fully response the requirements about professional capacity and financial to conduct this task. Currently, the consultant is carrying out the work in the first period of the task.
The consultant has established a working group to carry out fieldwork activities in June - July 2019. With the support from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dak Nong province, the consultant has ordered a meeting to agree on the content of the task implementation in 8 districts starting from June 18th to July 5th, 2019. Participants of the meeting include: representatives of People's Committees of Districts, representatives of People's Committees of communes with forest and forestry land in the district, representatives of forest owners are organizations in the district, representatives of Dak Nong Forest Protection and Development Fund, representative of the Institute of Forest Ecology and Environment (consultant). The contents of district-level discussion meeting include:
- Current status of forest protection management and development in the district in recent time;
- Current status of non-forested land is planned for forestry and potential for forest development, agroforestry and scattered plantation.
- Models of agricultural production on forestry land: Current situation of land use, types of models, economic - social and environmental effectiveness of models;
- Solutions for forest development by agroforestry method and scattered plantation in the district.
- Agreement, support the provision of information and review of the current status of non-forested land planned for forestry by the People's Committees of communes, forest owners for the consultant to have a basis to develop the project of the province.
- Agreement on the plan for conducting surveys, field surveys, assessing the current status of non-forested land planned for forestry and agro-forestry models.

The working group conducted field investigations and surveys in some study districts. The fieldwork includes: Investigating and surveying the status of non-forested land planned for forestry, soil profile, making maps and crops proposal; investigating civil and socio-economic; survey the planning.
