The standard set of TCVN 12510: 2018 on "Planted forests - coastal protection forests" includes 2 parts: TCVN 12510-1: 2018, Part 1: Protection forests for wind, sand and sand protection and TCVN 12510-2: 2018, Part 2: Protection forest for breakwater and sea encroachment.
The set of standards was compiled by the Institute for Forest Ecology and Environment (Viet Nam National University of Forestry), proposed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development,appraised by the Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality, published by Ministry of Science and Technology.

Planting protection forests is considered as one of the important solutions to protect coastal mangrove and sandy areas. Compared to other solutions, it often requires low investment, low environmental risks, harmony with nature, preserving traditional occupations and integrating with many socio-economic activities. In recent years, the State and people have invested in the construction of wave break and sand protection forests with significant areas. However, due to the lack of specific technical guidelines and national standards for sand and breakwater forests, many localities are still very confused in planning, management, protection and development. develop protective forests to block sand and break waves.
Because there are no standards for protection forests for sand shielding, mangrove protection waves, in some cases, people change the area of breakwater forests to break down into production land, in other cases, people exploit a forest. excessive ways of losing the ability to block sand and wave of the forest. Because there is no national standard for sand and breakwater forests, in this area, people have kept the wave break forest area much more than necessary to reduce the area for aquaculture, while in others, people keep the forests. too little is not enough to carry out their protective function. To overcome this problem, one of the urgent tasks is to develop national standards for sand protection and coastal protection forests. This is the basis for the planning of sand protection and breakwater protection forests, to develop comprehensive solutions for coastal management in accordance with specific conditions of each locality. This is the main task addressed in the above-mentioned National Standardization Project of "Planted forests - coastal protection forests".
The methods used to develop the standard include:
Selectively inherit: International standards, regional standards, standards in countries with similar geographical conditions and forest types in Vietnam;
Inheriting scientific and technological research results and technological advances;
Practical experience, expert consultation;
Inheriting the results of evaluation, testing, testing, inspection and inspection carried out in localities
The standards were implemented from 2016 - 2018, in the process of developing standards, the compilation team held many compilation boards, thematic meetings, summarized opinions from individuals and organizations across the country. water and survey results in Quang Ninh and Quang Binh provinces to develop a set of standards.

As follows: 1. TCVN 12510-1: 2018, Part 1: Protection forests against wind and sand This standard specifies requirements for protection forests along the coast for wind, sand and sand shielding with technical requirements and inspection methods of the following criteria:
- Direction of protective forest belt against wind and sand
- Width of protective forest belt
- The distance between the forest belts
- Structure of secondary forest belt
- Cross section of forest belt
- Forest belt density
2. TCVN 12510-2: 2018, Part 2: Protection forests for breakwater and sea encroachment This International Standard specifies requirements for the protection of coastal, breakwater and sea encroachment planting forests with the technical requirements and inspection methods of the following criteria:
- Protection forest belt
- Width of protective forest belt
- Index of forest belt structure
